School History
Abbey Primary is a popular two-form entry school for children from nursery to Year 6 (3 – 11 years). There are 384 school-aged children and 47 in our nursery. Although a Sutton school, we are situated on the border of Merton and draw the majority of our children from the St Helier estate.
How has the school changed? Abbey Primary moved into its present accommodation in September 1997. This was an excellent move, providing more space, a better learning environment and heightened security.
Accommodation – what can we offer your children? The school is housed in one building, situated on a large site, which includes a field, two playgrounds and two internal quadrangles, one of which has a pond. Our Key Stage 1 (infant) classes are sited downstairs and our Key Stage 2 (junior) classes are upstairs. Our nursery offers a fabulous start to your child’s education. It is bright, stimulating and has a covered outside area, enabling all children access to outdoor play, whatever the weather. We have two spacious Year 6 classrooms, allowing the oldest children the space that they need to work effectively. Our ICT suite enables classes to have a dedicated ICT lesson each week, as well as having access to a computer in each classroom and an interactive whiteboard in all classes from Y2 to Y6. Our After School Care Facility is an excellent addition to the school and has proved to be helpful for our working parents. We have a regeneration kitchen on site. School meals are prepared and cooked on the school premises and are therefore hot and fresh. Our two dining halls provide lots of space for our children during the lunch break. We use one for children eating school dinner and one for those with packed lunches. We have two halls; one used for a gym and a hall upstairs, which is used for school performances and assemblies.

Choosing a school is one of the most important decisions that parents make. We believe that choice should be based on first hand experience and knowledge. We therefore welcome visits from prospective parents. Please contact the school office if you would like a prospectus. |
